The Forsyth County History Walk

Located at the Sawnee Mountain Preserve Visitor's Center, this detailed project gives a deeper look into the history of Forsyth County. It is vitally important for residents and visitors to have access to the history of their community to gain a deeper understanding of the past and how it relates to them and other cultures. The Forsyth County History Walk fulfills this need.

The Walk consists of 4 plaques, each describing important time periods which make up the history of the County. The first plaque, Native Americans, details the lives of those who lived here before settlers and how they lived on this land. The second, Pioneer Life, gives visitors an insight into the first settlers of the county and their lifestyle of subsistence farming. The third plaque, Founding, describes how Forsyth County, Georgia came into existence beginning with prospectors in search of gold and how land was divided. Lastly, the Present Day Forsyth County plaque allows visitors to see how much Forsyth County has changed and grown since its humble beginnings. Through all of these events, Sawnee Mountain has watched from afar, standing as a representation of what was.
